Praya.
I apprehend that the formation of the Praya will interfere with the rights of certain property, particularly to the property of the Marine Lots; and, if any buildings are erected between them and the Sea, I think it will interfere with the Lots in the Queen's Road also. I do not intend this last observation to extend to cases where such buildings may be erected by the Marine Lot Holders themselves. It is very unlikely that they will erect China houses, but they have the right to do so. I am not aware of any China houses being built upon lands already reclaimed, except where China houses have been built upon the Marine Lots to which such lands are annexed. The erection of such houses has tended to lower rents in the Queen's Road.
In general, however, the houses built upon reclaimed lands have been European houses, and have been used for Storage, Offices, and the like, and have not been let as residences at all.
